Refractory Mortar, Fireplace Mortar, Refractory Castable & Fire Clay
Refractory mortar should be used for construction of fireplaces, chimneys, smoke chambers, bread
ovens, pizza ovens, boilers, incinerators, crematoriums, kilns and other applications where masonry
joints encounter high temperatures. Building codes require refractory mortar when installing fire brick
or clay flue linings.
High temperature refractory castable materials are used to create various shapes, filling cavities or
any other application requiring refractory materials.
Heat Stop® II (dry mix) Refractory Mortar
Heat Stop® II is non-water soluble, acid resistant and can be used for indoor or outdoor applications.
It is ideal for all flue and fire brick installations. Heat Stop® II is designed for thin mortar joint
application. Joints should be less than 3/8” maximum. Available in 10 or 40 lb pails. -Product

Heat Stop® Premix Refractory Mortar
Heat Stop® Premix is a ready to use product that should only be used for inside applications. It is
water soluble. Available in 15 or 50 lb pails. -Product Sheet- -MSDS-
Insul Stick® (dry mix) Flue/Refractory Repair
Insul Stick® is used for masonry repair and restoration. It is ideal for parging over fire brick. Insul
Stick® meets ASTM E-136 requirements for sealing wall penetrations for utility pass
through and can be cast, parged, troweled or sprayed. Available in 5 or 30 lb pails. Coverage is 5
lbs per sq. ft. 1” thick. -Product Sheet- -MSDS-
Hi-Cast 45 Refractory Castable
HI-CAST 45 is a general purpose 2700°F castable effective for most standard operating service
conditions. -Product Sheet- -MSDS-
Flue Set (dry mix) Refractory Mortar
Dry, hydraulically setting, non-water soluble, medium duty refractory mortar developed for use with
fire brick and clay flue tile. Acceptable for indoor or outdoor use. Mortar joints should be <1/8” for
setting flue tile and <3/8” for fire brick. -Product Sheet- -MSDS-
Air Set Fireplace Mortar (premix)
Wet, air-setting, medium duty 2700°F, refractory mortar. For indoor use only. It is recommend that a
1/16” to 1/8” joint when laying up fire brick. Approximately 35 to 40lbs. of mortar will lay up one
hundred 9x4½x2½" straights (depending on the thickness of the joint). -Product Sheet- -MSDS-
Ground Fire Clay
Fire Clay is available in 50 lb bags. Mortar enriched with fire clay does not meet building codes
and is NOT acceptable for use in fireplace and chimney construction.

Fire Clay Fireplace Mortar Recipe (NOT CODE)
2 parts
Portland Cement
6-9 parts
Mortar Sand
1 part
Fire Clay
Note: Fire clay enriched mortar does not meet building code requirements for fireplace and chimney
construction. The fire clay addition does NOTHING to increase heat resistance when used as a
fireplace mortar. The calcium carbonate compounds of the Portland cement will dissociate and
become friable when high heat is applied to this formula just like mortar without fire clay.
